What types of cases does Petersen Law handle?
Petersen Law focuses on drunk driving defense and criminal law in Omaha, Douglas County, Sarpy County, Cass County and Washington County. We only practice DUI law in those counties. We do not provide representation for personal injury, family law or other practice areas.
Do you really answer the phones 24/7?
Yes, we will answer your call at any hour of the day when you need help with a drunk driving case. Most DUIs occur at night or in the early morning hours and sometimes getting specific advice can make a difference in the outcome. On some occasions, we may not be able to give you specific legal advice on the phone without you revealing details that may be incriminating. Phone calls from the jail or police facility may be recorded or listened to by police so please be discrete in these circumstances.
When can I schedule an appointment?
All meetings are by appointment only. Call us at 402-513-2180. We generally schedule appointments during regular business hours. Frequently, we schedule special appointments after 5 or on the weekends for matters that cannot wait. We can sometimes meet you at your home or at another location.
Will you come see me in jail?
We frequently visit people detained in jail on criminal charges. Generally, someone retains the firm and then we make a correctional center visit soon after. We will meet in private in the jail where we can discuss the case in detail and create a plan of action. The first step is normally to get you out of jail.
How much does it cost for you to handle my Nebraska DUI case?
The facts and circumstances of each individual case along with the amount of work necessary to vigorously defend it will affect the cost of retaining us. Each case is different and a specific fee will be discussed during our first meeting together. We strive to provide the best representation available in Omaha. However, if cost is your only concern then we may not be the right firm for you. We are not a low cost provider and believe that we offer exceptional value given the attention to detail and analysis that goes into every case.
I don’t know if I need representation. Will you still talk to me?
Yes! We will give a free consultation to anyone charged with a DUI in Omaha, Sarpy County or Cass County. Sometimes after our first meeting, we tell many people that they may not benefit from having a lawyer at all. We’re happy to suggest ways to resolve the case and help you leave better informed. If we see ways that a lawyer will benefit you, we will explain how and why. The decision to hire us or anyone else is up to you.
What is expected of me as a client?
The attorney-client relationship works best if you are completely honest with your attorney. Anything you say to us is completely confidential and is privileged. We ask a lot of questions each of which may have a specific affect on your defense. Our detailed questionnaire should be filled out completely. We collect a retainer at the beginning of the case that begins our representation. You should stay in contact with us and proptly advise if you move or get a new phone number. DUI cases often move slowly for a period and then quickly so we need to be able to reach you. We will make specific recommendations to you about how to best prepare your case and explain why they are important. You should follow those recommendations or discuss them but not ignore them. It is baffling that some people hire us to provide exceptional representation and then ignore every single recommendation that we provide that will help their case.
How will I be kept informed of my case?
We take advantage of all forms of communication. Generally, we communicate by email or phone for the most efficient service. Sometimes, we send a letter. We conduct a case review of every file each week. If something needs input from our clients, we will call or email. We regularly update each client on the status of his or her case.
Why hire Petersen Law?
Thomas Petersen grew up in a lower income family and quickly learned that hard work is rewarded. This led to an exceptional work ethic and success throughout his life. What this means for you is simple: He will work hard on your case.
With over 15 years experience, focused DUI practice area and constant training, we strive to provide a greater degree of representation. We explore and leverage every facet of the State’s case to find holes and defenses. Just because the Government has filed a DUI charge against you means nothing. Can they prove it? By the time we analyze your case and see all of the evidence, you will have a confident answer.
We care about our clients. That is why we answer the phones 24 hours a day, why we ask such detailed questions and why we go the extra mile for each client.
